All candidates for the position of nanny are required to fill out an extensive application form including references and a recent photograph. We also request a detailed autobiographical letter in which the applicant describes herself/himself, family background, values and goals, professional and personal experiences, and their reasons for seeking employment as nannies. We also require police, medical, and driving records. After we have reviewed the application at length, we personally contact and check in depth at least three references supplied by the candidate, at least two of which must be child care related. (Many applicants do not get beyond this stage.) If we are encouraged about the applicant's candidacy, we arrange for an in-depth interview with an ANC interviewer. This is a very comprehensive interview, and is designed to assess the motivation levels, enthusiasm for and commitment to working with children, competencies, scope of child care philosophies and experiences, family background, emotional maturity and stability, interpersonal strengths and growth areas as well as suitability for living and working in an intimate family environment. It is also during this interview that we are able to ascertain the right kind of job and family for the applicant being assessed. Upon completion of the interview, the prospective nanny will be carefully evaluated and rated by the interviewer. If the applicant is among those recommended for placement, the candidate will be matched for interviews with families based on suitability and compatibility. |
